2020 Riesling Batterieberg, Grosse Lage

Die Monopollage des Weinguts liegt im Starkenburger Fels zwischen Enkirch und Traben-Trarbach. Geprägt duch Felsvorsprünge und alte Weinbergsmauern dokumentiert dieser Weinberg ein Stück Weinbergshistorie der Mosel. Zwischen 1841 und 1845 wurden im Weinberg, zur Urbarmachung und besseren Bewirtschaftung, einige Felsnasen gesprengt. Prägend für diese einzigartige Lage ist hier der graue Schiefer mit einem ungewöhnlich hohen Anteil an Quarziten. Diese Riesling-Weine präsentieren sich kraftvoll, fest und vielschichtig mit einer legendären Haltbarkeit über viele Jahrzehnte hin weg.

"The radiant golden-yellow 2020 Enkircher Batterieberg Riesling comes from 80-year-old, ungrafted vines on gray slate and quartzite soils in the steep terraces of the Starkenburg slope and opens with a highly delicate yet also very deep and stony bouquet with perfectly concentrated ripe fruit aromas and notes of crushed stones and wild herbs. This is fascinatingly complex again, and at this early stage, it also has very fine gunpowder notes. Pure, fresh and intense on the palate, this is a dense, lush and firmly structured Batterieberg with a touch of sweetness on the finish. Bottled three weeks ago on October 11 (with the sulfur dose a few days before), this is a still-nervous but tensile and very promising wine that should be cellared for a year or three, if you like to enjoy a wide, relaxed and balanced grand cru." 96+ Punkte

Suckling:
"Although this has very deep wild-herb character, it is still a bit embryonic. After some aeration it really shines, delicate citrus and mirabelle notes then emerging. Very compact structure on the medium body, the fine tannins exactly matched to the impressive concentration. The incredible wet-stone finish just doesn’t want to stop!
